Bill Nye Saves the World Netflix Series Review

Bill Nye Saves the World (2017-)
Season 1 - 13 episodes (2017)
Watch Bill Nye Saves the World on Netflix // Watch Bill Nye the Science Guy
Presented by: Bill Nye
Starring: Karlie Kloss, Derek Muller, Nazeem Hussain, Emily Calandrelli, Joanna Hausmann
Rating: TV-14

Plot
You may know Bill from his kids science show in the nineties, now Bill Nye has a talk show focusing on the connection between science, pop culture, politics, and society.
Bill tackles sex, global warming, GMO's, technology, and alternate medicine with plenty of celebrity guests.

Verdict
This is more variety show than science, focusing on entertainment with celebrity guests. This seems to be more a platform for Bill Nye to rant more than anything else. Bill's political views are quite transparent, and he's scolding more than teaching.
It's out of touch, more grand standing than anything else. I didn't hate this, but it's a show with a lot of potential that settles for average. If anything, maybe it will spur you on to research the topics on your own.
Watch it.

Review
Bill Nye the Science Guy this isn't. It isn't far from Bill Nye shaking his fist in the air and ranting. I don't know if it's Bill or the writing but it has a strange blend of scolding yet also trying to connect with a younger audience.
This could be a really interesting show that tackles topics in the news and explains them, but instead it resorts to a lot of filler. It's surface level coverage. While the set and in the field interviews imply this is well crafted, the overall conceit of the show seems thrown together. Season one tackles the hot button issues in the news, but where does it go for season two? The popular topics have been covered, so the show will either rehash them or pick boring topics.

There are plenty of science topics that could be made fascinating, but this show doesn't seem adept at such a feat. This show is exactly like a podcast. You've got a few people talking, you only need to pay attention sporadically, and it's best if you're doing something else while listening.
The best parts are the round table discussion that actually discusses topics with a little bit of depth, but those segments are under-utilized and under-developed.
