Plot
After discovering a fast, blue hedgehog, a small-town police officer must help him defeat an evil genius who wants to do experiments on him.

Verdict
A mindless video game movie that proves yet again that adaptations aren't easy, especially when the video game has so little plot to begin with. The plot is every other human helping alien story while they're on the run, and  there is nothing to like about it. Carrey does a nice job chewing the scenery, but that doesn't offset the rest of this movie.
Skip it.

Review
After the first trailer release met with widespread criticism, the character of Sonic was redesigned to look more like the video game character.

To make the jump from video game to movie, this posits Sonic as a world hopping alien. Then follows a run of the mill children's action movie where a police officer that accidentally encounters Sonic feels obligated to help Sonic escape government pursuers. The government portrays the cop as a criminal, but he's just trying to do the right thing.

The plot and jokes often feel forced. The movie just isn't that interesting, as I've seen it before. Carrey is a lot of fun as Dr. Robotnik, an over the top super villain. Carrey is playing to his style that we saw in movies like Ace Ventura, but he can't save the movie by himself, but he is the lone bright spot in this movie. It isn't enough to make it worth watching.

Surprisingly this movie is audacious enough to leave it open for a sequel, and a sequel is in the works.
