Plot
A decidedly odd couple with ulterior motives convince Dr. Grant to go to Isla Sorna for a holiday, but their unexpected landing startles the island's new inhabitants.
Verdict
This should have been the first sequel. While it suffers from the typical sequel problems of trying to be more in every sense while being a lesser repeat of the first movie, it doesn't succumb to the sheer nonsense of The Lost World.
It depends.
Review
The production logos before the movie have the rippling puddle effect made famous by Jurassic Park.
This brings back Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sadler, though she's just a cameo. Grant is fund raising for his research. He thinks Raptors communicated to a degree never before considered. Obtaining funding is the only reason he accepts a job to take a couple for a site seeing trip over Isla Sorna.

While Grant initially refused to chaperone a flyover of the island, a generous donation to his research changes his mind. We get a hint that this couple may be up something. While the couple only wanted to fly over the island, during the trip they prepare to land. Grant tells them it's a bad idea and is incapacitated. Anyone watching knows it's a bad idea. We're all proven right almost instantly. It's always the T-Rex. This movie doesn't even build up to it. The twist here is that there's also a Spinosaurus. Grant seems rather calm considering he was misled and doubts they'll make it off the island alive.
Raptors stole the show in the first movie, so it's a smart move to bring them back and make them even smarter. Grant is separated from the group but saved by Eric, this couple's son and the reason they came to the island. Somehow in eight weeks this kid has built a fort and filled it with smoke bombs. He's been busy figuring out how to survive on an island with dinosaurs when so many others have died. His survival seems completely far fetched. This kid even has T-Rex urine, only stating Grant doesn't want to know how he obtained it. I do want to know. This kid's adventure deserves it's own movie. I just don't believe this kid could survive.

The group reunites, enters a Pteranadon aviary while narrowly avoiding escape. Then the gas in a ten year old boat still works and they ride away. They're attacked by a Spinosaurus, and I don't see how they would survive, not that it matters. Their rescue seems a bit too easy, but they manage to thwart the Raptors who decide the odds aren't in their favor with military helicopters on the way.
This is better than the second movie, but in no way does it compare to the first. It's a typical sequel that is nearly a copy of the first movie with none of the creativity.
