Grace and Frankie - Something for the coveted over fifty market.

Plot:
In this Netflix original, two women become friends when they discover their husbands aren't just business partners, they're romantically involved.

Verdict:
Finally a comedy for septuagenarians. Grace and Frankie are opposites who become friends when their husbands marry each other later in life, setting up an odd couple situation. In this season, Grace and Frankie become closer as Robert and Sol's relationship has its ups and downs.
It's fairly light, something to put on and never come back to as background noise. The drama and comedy are both very mild. The dramatic plot lines are very glib, while the comedic situations fail to land jokes. The funniest scenes are when the family is in one room, but that only happens a few times this season. The acting talent is undeniable, but that alone isn't enough.

I have not seen season 1, but I did read wikipedia. A friend who watched both seasons liked the first better.

This isn't a show I would check out if I wasn't reviewing it. It just doesn't interest me. The first episode was not flattering. There were  a few feeble attempts at jokes, while the main plot line is Robert and Sol officially marrying after a medical scare. While I didn't see the first season, their marriage was underwhelming, lacking emotion almost completely. It would be one of the worst season openers for a Netflix original I've seen. I assume it would have been a better episode if I had seen season one, but that's debatable.

The interesting premise devolves into mindless jokes. You see punch lines coming from a mile away. It's tired comedy. Some of the sibling rivalry is funny, but with all of these characters which individually are interesting, the show never takes off.

Episodes nine and twelve were standout due to the scenes with whole family. Their awkwardness works very well, but this hilarity happens far and few between. 

Familiar with Waterston mainly from Law and Order, he's very impressive in this. You get to see him inhabit a completely different character. All of the acting is impressive, but Tomlin is the hippie and Fonda is the posh retiree. There are only so many jokes that can be mined from that.
