Plot
A mystery family drama where a love of words helps a father reconnect with a missing son.

Verdict
This is a strange movie about a family that's passionate about Scrabble. The value of words is key to this narrative. While you could say not a lot happens, this is an emotional journey for the characters. Nighy's character is interesting enough to keep you intrigued for the duration.
It depends.

Review
This starts with very little context, but soon Alan (Bill Nighy) is hustling Scrabble. I don't know the odds of two advanced Scrabble players ending up in one room, but that is this movie. Alan is obsessed with Scrabble and words that can help him win.

The movie has fun with words and the concept. Alan is obsessed with Scrabble to the point that he's alienated his family. That's complicated by additional family matters.

Nighy is always fun to watch and he's intriguing as Alan. His focus might be a facade to mask his feelings about his family. Alan also has an odd quirk about wanting to label everything. Alan is staying with his son during most of the movie, but the son didn't welcome him with open arms. Alan does manage to help his grandson.

Bill Nighy plays Alan.

By the end of the movie the characters have come to terms with past and present. It's an odd movie, and I like that it's atypical.
