Plot
An embattled NYPD detective is thrust into a citywide manhunt for a pair of cop killers after uncovering a massive and unexpected conspiracy.

Verdict
I really like this movie. I was hoping for adequate, and this is so much more. It's a gritty cop thriller full of crimes and conspiracies. All the characters are just murky enough where you don't quite know where this will go. Getting there is a great experience as the pace is quick and following the clues seems quite logical which isn't always the case for this genre. I have an affinity for gritty cop dramas, and this certainly ranks high.
Watch It.

Review
This opens with an unnecessary flashback of Andre Davis (Chadwick Boseman) as a kid. As an adult he's a cop involved in a lot of shootings which raises some questions. He works out of Manhattan and if you wondered whether Manhattan has twenty one bridges after the drone footage showing bridges, you'd be correct.

Chadwick Boseman plays Andre Davis

It's a night of bad luck where cops, criminals, and a determined detective all intersect. Ray (Taylor Kitsch) and Michael's (Stephen James) plan for a quick robbery quickly goes awry when cops appear. The petty thieves are quickly in way over their heads, but they manage to escape. Andre is the cop tasked with investigating and finding them. None of the officers involved in the case mind his history of shooting suspects.

Stephan James, Taylor Kitsch play Michael, Ray

This is certainly an intriguing setup. Timestamps and locations track scenes, providing a sense of urgency. Andre only has until morning before the FBI steps in. The movie builds a great foundation, but that also makes it tougher to pay it off. It's not easy to balance on the tight rope. I like gritty cop movies, so this is right up my alley. Even if it's just okay, I would enjoy it.

Andre quickly tracks down Ray and Michael, but other cops seem to be on their own investigation. Something's not quite right here, and it certainly seems like there is more to this crime than at first glance. Is it just petty revenge or something more? The movie keeps things just vague enough to where you wonder if there is a conspiracy at play. If so, what is this conspiracy?

I really like how this plays out. Everyone has something at stake, and by the end we know all motivations. This is my kind of movie, but this one really does a great job in the genre.
