Plot
In the 1970s, an anchorman's stint as San Diego's top-rated newsreader is challenged when an ambitious newswoman becomes his co-anchor.

Verdict
It's absolutely ridiculous, imagining newscasters as the premier profession in the 70s. They must acclimate to women in the workplace, but this is a movie that is silly above all else. The story is just a springboard for ridiculous put downs and antics as Ron Burgundy faces off against Veronica Cornerstone. Despite the one liners and antics, the undercurrent is these dumb men that are terrified of women entering the workplace and challenging their supremacy.
Watch It.

Review
Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) is the premier news anchor for a San Diego station with an entourage of correspondents that follow him around. They're all self absorbed and misogynistic. In this time period the news is a man's game, after all it's anchorman.

When the station hires Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) to appeal to a wider audience, Ron and his posse don't like that one bit feeling threatened. They try to take her out. She has to battle misogyny and men blatantly hitting on her and talking about her. They're crude, and you'd think they have never interacted with a woman. That's a lot of depth for a movie where the main joke is how self absorbed Burgundy is. He's the man about town, but he seems like a moron.

Burgundy takes Veronica out to tour the city under the guise of colleagues. His jazz flute performance at the club wins her over. He's instantly smitten with her. She's concerned about how this affects her reputation and future at the station. She has enough to overcome without people thinking she's using Ron or his modest fame. Of course Ron isn't one for subtlety. He almost instantly admits to the station they're dating.

The news brought them together, but it also tears them apart. When Veronica fills in for Ron, her viewership is higher despite the other male correspondents trying to sabotage her. This creates a rift as Ron doesn't like the competition and feels threatened that she may earn a spot as the anchor.

You wouldn't expect the news world to be this exciting or ridiculous. Frequently Ron and his posse encounter a rival news station Wes Mantooth (Vince Vaughn) and his fellow correspondents out in public. It's this level of ridiculousness that keeps this entertaining. This is always so over the top. You can't not like something this silly.
