Plot
Jean Grey develops incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into Dark Phoenix, causing the X-Men to decide if her life is worth more than all of humanity.
Verdict
Easily the worst X-Men movie, and just bad in general. There's nothing to care about. The worst offense is that it's boring. The Jean Grey story has been done a few times and it still isn't working
Skip it.
Review
The franchise is keeping the young X-men even though there's no logic to it. I don't mind that, but it's a lack of ingenuity. The franchise is trying to play it safe. It's using the cast that worked.
Where X-men: Apocalypse had too much story, this one doesn't have enough. It's repeating the Jean Grey Dark Phoenix arc again and doing nothing to develop the characters. It's a well known, if not the most well known, but it's an safe choice.
Sophie Turner plays Jean Grey. |
This has aliens which are completely underdeveloped. I don't know what the aliens are after other than Jean Grey's power. There's so much this movie could have done with Jean Grey, and it does nothing.
The whole movie is a mess. The Jean Grey story has been attempted a few times, and I don't understand why it's being tried again. Magneto is shoehorned into the movie just to cram another character into the plot. Logan proved that a huge ensemble isn't necessary.
Most of the X-men movie are about something with an underlying message. X-men has been a way to confront social issues. This movie is just a way to milk the franchise. There's a reason this movie was delayed a couple times.
