Call My Agent! Season 1 Netflix Series

Call My Agent! (2016-)
Season 1 - 6 episodes (2016)
Watch Call My Agent! on Netflix
Created by: Fanny Herrero
Starring: Camille Cottin, Thibault de Montalembert, Gregory Montel
Rated: TV-MA

Plot
This six episode French mini-series centers around talent agents and their movie star clients. The Netflix press release lists this as Ten Percent, but the Netflix site lists it as Call My Agent! The French title translates to Ten Percent. The agents get 10% of the actor's pay.

Verdict
I found this incredibly boring. It doesn't help that I wanted this to be Entourage, focusing on over the top antics of Hollywood's biggest stars. Instead, this is an office drama. It lacks humor and emotion, failing to capitalize on the premise. This might as well be set at any office. I struggled to maintain any amount of interest.
Skip it.

Review
This is a less fun French Entourage (read my review). Entourage focused directly on the movie and later television world. We got a behind the scenes look at what happens and tensions between stars. Call My Agent! is a once removed look at that world. I'm sure if I was more familiar with French movies I'd recognize more names, as this does feature cameos from legitimate movie stars. We do get a mention of a Tarantino movie when Cécile De France doesn't get the part despite horse and English lessons. She plays herself.

Agents Arlette, Mathias, Andréa, Gabriel
This series shows us a talent agency, providing perspectives from the agents like Mathias and Gabriel and also from the assistant Camille who has a mysterious past with Mathias. Camille becomes involved with Mathias's son who is also an actor which leads to revealing Mathias and Camille's relationship. Chances are you will have already guessed the answer.

I don't know if it's the timing, the culture, or some other inexplicable reason, but I just couldn't pay attention to this. It's not bad, but it's everything Entourage is not, which is a problem. Entourage ruined this show for me as I wanted something that traces the line between reality and parody. I'm going to attribute this to a culture difference. With a second watch, I'd probably enjoy this more, but it's too much of an office drama when movie stars play such a big part in the plot.

    2. Hi there,
I also loved this show, and I asked Netflix about Seasons 2&3. It's been 2 years since they made season 1 available with no announcement of the next season. If you'd like to see more, you can request Netflix to get it (as I also am doing.) The more people that request it, the greater chance of it happening! http://help.netflix.com/titlesuggestion

  2. I love the show. It captures French idiosyncrasies beautifully.

    1. The blogger is absolutely ignorant to French culture. I hope people won't follow the blogger's advice because if they do they will really miss on an intelligent movie.

  5. Excellent ensemble cast with hilarious twists and turns. Perhaps the reviewer is too young to appreciate a sophisticated plot. I vote for Season 2 and more..

  7. Excellent series and a charming look into French culture. The glimpses of Paris street scenes just adds to the magic. I miss my stay on the Rue de Rivoli.

  10. I don't think if you're looking for Entourage, that you're up for watching a subtitled show. You might as well rewatch Entourage, and leave Call My Agent for the more sophisticated crowd.

  11. This series thoroughly charmed us. It's very French, very human, with eccentric characters -- funny, but with a warmth, a depth, that puts it well above Entourage and its ilk. If there's any chance of a second season, we are eager to see it.

  16. "Call My Agent", call Netflix and demand the 2nd season. The all too short 1st season was "Fanstastique"! I wanted more and now I, we, wait. Netflix, hear us, we cry out!!!

  17. I LOVED this show! funny, witty, heart-warming, gorgeous actors & actresses! I am far from being a TV show fan as I often watch documentaries or movies on Neflix, but I finished this TV show in two nights:) Netflix, more seasons, please!

  18. Call My Agent is in fact a France 2 series picked up by Netflix after its original airing. Season two is being aired in France now(ish). Uncertain if Netflix will pick it up.

  19. SUPERB! One of the best original shows on Netflix in recent times. I'm betting the reviewer is a) American and b) under 30. The satire, empathy, and joie de vivre is refreshing and addictive. Rapidly binge watching S1 and looking forward to S2.
